Connaught Street is a great ‘off the beaten track’ road with many a hidden treasure. One such gem Abasto, an Argentinian coffee shop, not only serves great coffee but also delicious and now famous empanadas. I spied the chef, perched high on a stool at a work bench, intent on her creations carefully folding the pastry around a wide variety of sumptuous ingredients. Everything at the restaurant is home made, bringing authentic Argentinian cuisine to the hussle and bussle of the West End. You can also shop their deli for ingredients to make your own fabulous, Argentinian inspired dishes at home.
The feel is relaxed and homely, and the staff warm and welcoming; no fuss, no hurry, just get blown away by the deliciousness of Abasto. The next thing on our list is to experience their Argentinian Wine Tasting evenings hosted from their wonderful wine room. The list of reasons to make a visit go on!
Initially though we suggest a morning stroll around Hyde Park and then nipping in for a coffee at Abasto to sample and one of their Aljajorcitos de Maizena (an unspeakably scrumptious cake to you and me)
